History of The Potter's House The journey of how The Potter’s House Parable Christian Store has become what you see today, is one filled with difficulties, blessings, the unexpected and the astonishing... All showing the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord! After experiencing great difficulty and loss, two hurting families were united as one as the Lord shaped and molded a new vessel for His glory. After owners Tom & Cherie were married, coming from a background in church work and a deep love for reading – it was decided that The Potter’s House would be opened. The Potter’s House... Why that name? Jeremiah 18:1-2 says, “The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, Arise, and go down to the potter's house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words.” Just as the potter had created something new and useful out of broken vessels, that’s what the Lord had done for Tom & Cherie!

In 1979, The Potter’s House Christian Bookstore was born on Patterson Street in an old house that had been turned into a gas station and later abandoned... and would later be discovered was originally owned by a family named...Potter!  The doors were opened and the ministry began.  Several years later, more space was necessary and the store was moved to the Marketplace Shopping Center on Ashley Street where it operated for many years... some of you may remember reading in the Ark or climbing the stairs to the Music Loft!

In December of 1998, the current Oak Street location was opened and our affiliation with The Parable Group began.  There have been numerous additions and changes within the store over the years!  In 2005, The Potter’s House Christian Bookstore, was renamed The Potter’s House Parable Christian Store.  While still locally owned and operated by Tom & Cherie, The Potter’s House became a franchise of Parable.  This relationship has helped our local store do a better job of ministry in our community, online, and across the nation!

If you’d asked us a couple of years ago about a second location, we would’ve said one is plenty! However, the Lord and visionary Tom had other plans... in September, 2010 the Colonial Mall Valdosta Kiosk was opened and The Potter’s House began doing ministry from two locations... After Christmas, prayerful discussions with the mall management led to the decision to move the kiosk to an inline store.  We rolled up our sleeves and went to work cleaning, painting and decorating... On February 12, 2011 the gate rolled for the first time on our second store!
